 PERSONAL COMMUNICATION PASSPORT

Email: davidsmith@tarkabigx.me.uk

David has schizophrenia and high function autistic spectrum condition (ASC / Asperger's  Syndrome) as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

SCHIZOPHRENIA
*******************
David requires anti-psychotic medication.

He experiences communication difficulties and his preferred method of interaction is by email, blogging or text messages which gives him time and space to process and understand information.

ASC
****
ASC means that he finds change in routine difficult to understand.

ASC also means that he has difficulty in responding to another persons feelings and to be able to empathise and meet his needs..He is unable to interpret body language and make effective eye contact and may experience frustration at a perceived lack of understanding.

Due to ASC David can be over stimulated by his environment and is sensitive to noise, light and temperature levels as well as smells. An example of this could be loud sirens in the context of noise. This heightened sensitivity can lead to sensory overload and low arousal approaches are needed such lower light, noise and temperature levels or a change in activity.
This is a consequence of heightened sensations or sensitivity. David needs to be on his own or in his own space as he finds crowds or other people overwhelming

David will indulge in internal mental games which is an example of behaviour that challenges in the form of self-stimulation.

David may experience hyperfocus.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
****************************************
From a Self-assessment / diagnostic tool used during Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) sessions it became evident that David had post-traumatic stress disorder from a punctured liver received after drinking in a nightclub in Bristol.

He has noticed at work in the past and at home that he experiences intrusive memories and / or thoughts in the form of flashbacks which result in the alienation of expression of his thought, speech and behaviour. There is hypervigilance or externally directed vigilance, difficulty concentrating and sleeping also with the occurrence of nightmares, and also feeling constantly irritable. David also feels that he experiences a deep sense of shame as a consequence of having PTSD.

BEST PRACTICE
*****************
David Likes to collect and read books as well as collect and watch DVDs.
More recently in times of extreme anxiety he listens to an IPOD with thunderstorm sounds, bird song and whale music on the landings of the stairs to his attic as a distraction technique as this form of music is also meditational, and at times like this uses acupuncture medicine as well.

Although he does advocate the use of stimulants, he finds a white coffee with one sugar and a roll up cigarette helpful.

David finds crowds overwhelming and as a consequence in town he likes to take time out in with a Latte coffee and a cigarette.

He has been advised by the fire brigade not to use a gas cooker for cooking as he is on medication and may feel drowsy or distracted but finds a microwave cooker useful as well as a blender to make nourishment drinks with milk, banana, spirulina, goji berries, wheat grass and also hemp protein powder as well as supergreens powder.
